Buckeyes are a candy that get their name from their resemblance to the nut of buckeye trees, the state tree of Ohio. This description in turn came from the nut's resemblance to the eyes of deer, or bucks. This shouldn't be confused with the said buckeye nuts in their shell, which is what the stickers on the back of Ohio State football helmets look like. And football season is mainly when Midwesterners indulge in these peanut butter chocolate confections; more buckeyes are eaten during the Ohio State / Michigan game than at any other time of the year.
